Partnership lies at the very heart of the SOWERS Program, bringing local churches together with supporting churches and individuals to fulfil the Great Commission.
No single church or mission can complete this task on its own. It can only be completed as we work together using the resources and gifts that God has given his church - teachers, evangelists, disciplers, pastors, encouragers and givers.
In general terms those living in developing countries have a great harvest before them, but limited means to bring it in. Those in developed countries have the means, but a limited harvest. When those who "can afford" become partners with those who "can do", the task of evangelism advances rapidly.
A true partnership is one that is equal for both partners. Where one partner does all the giving and the other all the taking, unbalanced partnership develops, leading to frustration and resentment.
As SOWERS partners with a local church, SOWERS offers the expertise, training and material it has to the church. The SOWERS training and instruction becomes the property of the local church. The church in turn provides the candidates to be trained and a place where new converts will be nurtured, built up and trained to go out and win others. As a result of this growth Christians in local churches are motivated to evangelise and so the church is mobilised.
When you become a partner, either as a church or individual through SOWERS, you receive the opportunity to help the church to go, sow and grow in developing countries.
There is also the opportunity to visit and see the ministry, be an encouragement to those in the field and, if desired, to receive SOWERS training. If as a result of your exposure to missions you desire to be further involved, SOWERS can offer ministry positions to interested and qualified people.
SOWERS doesn't operate alone. It exists to equip and empower other members of the body of Christ to become more effective in evangelism.
SOWERS is more convinced than ever that a partnership with nationals is a profitable partnership. As "majority world" churches mature they have become the cutting edge of evangelism to their own people. Sure, they still need our help, but in the form of PARTNERSHIP - the mutual sharing of what we each possess in order to fulfil the the task.
That is why Paul could say, "I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel ..." Philippians 1:4
