The first country in Africa to benefit from SOWERS' training was Ghana in 1977. Perceptive leaders saw the immense benefit for the African church in using the SOWERS' Program. Now, over 30 years later, some of the first Sowers trained are still planting new churches using the simple, transferable principle.

Techiman sees God at work

I had a meeting with the teams in the Techiman area and gathered this report for the past three months.

The 7 teams in the area had 17 open air meetings
374 people heard the gospel.
180 were responded to the invitations.
164 were personally counseled.
3 churches were planted within the 3 month period that is from April to June.

At Sonkonee 18 adults and 11 children are now in this new church. Just last week Sunday 2 others joined the church. There is follow-up every Sunday. The second church was planted at Koforiduah a small village. 5 people have started attending church. The team plans to reach another village close to Koforiduah to get the people come to church at Koforiduah.

Another church is being planted at James Town, a surburb of Techiman. Follow-up is done four times during the week. They have 10 adults meeting for church services on Sundays. The number they hope will increase as they will have more open air meetings in then area. Another one is being planted at Aworano. They visit the new members 3 times during the week for follow-up. They have already acquired a building plot for the new church. After an open air meeting when the team met to review the program, a guy came along and listened in to the review. They got to the message and as it was preached over to the team this man stood and listened to the entire message and was led to the Lord by one of the team members.

The team at Koase-Twimia is also reaching out to a village called New Jerusalem. They have started with open airs and hope to plant a church there.

Hairdresser + 38 respond

I have just come back from a very good seminar. 27 people were in attendance. The 4 open air meetings saw 173 people hearing the gospel and 39 people coming to know the Lord. Image courtesy of Machovka, http://www.openclipart.org/

The meeting was close to a hair-dressing saloon. The owner was there with two of her apprentices. They responded to the invitation. Two of the apprentices came to me at the open air meeting also wanting to hear the gospel. I booked an appointment with them the following day. I led them to the Lord and started follow-up the following day. They were very receptive. The owner is requesting that twice a week one of the team members will come and have morning devotion with the entire staff of 7 before they start work.

The seven teams are so charged that they are having six open air meetings on the 17th which is this Sunday. One of the participants trained many years ago was there to repeat. He is now retired and owns a printing press. He has offered to print some of our materials free of charge. He is printing 100 Digest 1 now and has asked me to bring other materials. What a blessing. This is his support for the Sowers work in the country.

Daughter's Determination

During an open air meeting held at Amuana Praso an interesting thing happened. A 15 year old Muslim girl stood to listen to the gospel. Just as she was about to pray the sinners prayer, African Muslim girl

the mother whisked her away. However she sneaked out of the house, came to where the team had met and was led to the Lord and counselled. She is being followed up secretly by the team.

Baptist Breakthrough

Northern sector had a fruitful house to house witnessing after their training in a predominantly Muslim town. However the Lord blessed their outing with 100 people contacted and counselled in about 2hrs.

Ghana Breakthrough

Six separate open air meetings were held by a team of 37 in a 4-day outreach in a Happy faces in Oda, Ghana surburb of Oda city. A total of 350 people responded to the invitations and 215 people were personally counselled. A church was planted as a result of the outreach by the Sowers team.
