Zambia

Zambia is one tenth the size of Australia with more than 17 million people. 26% of the population are evangelical Christians. Of the 72 languages spoken in Zambia, seven are main ones. Zambia is divided into 10 Provinces. SOWERS is established in four Provinces and the work is growing slowly in four others. The work is led by a National Board and there are three full time Zambian Sowers and three part time Sowers. SOWERS manuals are in four main languages and counselling booklets are now in nine languages.

Worker Profiles

STEPHEN - Stephen and Miriam live in the Luapula Province of Zambia. They have five sons and Stephen has a small farm in the deep rural area. In 2003 Stephen became the Coordinator for the Luapula Province and he is a Level 5 Sower. Under his leadership the work has become very strong with over 145 active teams and many Level 3 Sowers.

TITUS - Titus and Loveness live in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. Titus is working full time with SOWERS Zambia and took over coordinating the work on the Copperbelt in 2005. He attended the GLO Discipleship Training School in Ndola where he was trained in the SOWERS Program and has trained up to Level 5. He is a passionate Sower and has been responsible for the establishment of the SOWERS Program in the North Western Province.

PUTA - Puta and Esther live on the shores of Lake Mweru in the far north of the Luapula Province. They are grandparents and have nine children. He knows a little English but speaks French and Swahili (DRC) and Bemba fluently and teaches Seminars in all three languages. Puta is a fisherman by profession but now spends most of his time working for the Lord. Puta is at Level 5 and works in a part time capacity with SOWERS Zambia. He has trained many teams both in the north of the Luapula Province and across the lake in DR Congo.

BENEDICT - Benedict is the Coordinator for Machinga Province. A SOWERS team from GLO Bible School visited his village in 1989 to conduct an open-air meeting and the team helped him to receive Christ as his Saviour. Then in 1991 he went to this same Bible School and it was there that he learnt about SOWERS. He has progressed through the Levels reaching Level 5. He is married to Christine and they have four children.

MPUNDU - Mpundu is the Coordinator for Lusaka Province. In 1987 he met Jesus when visitors came to visit the church choir and they preached the gospel and he responded. He became a SOWERS team member in1989 and has reached level 4. He and his wife, Mary, have four children.

DAVIDE - Davide is the Coordinator for the Eastern Province. Farming has been his occupation. He became a Christian in 1993. Wanting to know how to share his faith in Christ he attended a SOWERS Level 1 seminar being conducted in his district in 2000 and went on to become a level 4 Sower and today is the Coordinator for the Eastern Province. Davide is married to Mary and they have four children.

ELLIOT - Elliot Kanyembo is the Coordinator for the North Western Province and a Level 4 Sower. He is married to Elizabeth and they have one child. He found the Lord Jesus Christ in 1998 and ever since that time his life has not been the same. He met Sowers in 2021 through the Copperbelt Coordinator, Titus, who introduced the Program in North Western Province and in that same year he become a member of the SOWERS Program.

EVARISTO - Evaristo was appointed the Coordinator for the Northern Province in 2024. He grew up in a Christian family and as a young man was involved in various church activities, although he was not a Christian. He attended a Christian Conference where he received Jesus as his personal Saviour. He became involved with the SOWERS Program in 1998 and has become a level 4 Sower. He lives in Kasama with his wife Diana and his six children.
